Luiza Paiva is a filmmaker in between the UK and Brazil. Focused on documentaries and fiction films, she earned a MA degree in Media Practice for Development and Social Change at the University of Sussex (UK) as a Stuart Hall Foundation Scholar, and a BA in Film/Journalism at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro.
Luiza started her career working for award-winning filmmakers such as Walter Salles at VideoFilms and has recently worked with the Brazilian/Algerian filmmaker Karim Ainouz in his feature film “Firebrand”, shot in the UK by Brouhaha Films.
In 2016 she was selected to be part of Global Shapers, a project supported by the World Economic Forum, and co-founded a production company in Brazil focused on women producers called Mairarê.
Luiza is also a member of the Global Impact Producers Assembly (GIPA), a network by DocSociety for Impact Producers, and has been awarded with a scholarship from the Brazilian organisation Projeto Paradiso to be part of the 2022 Torino Film Festival Script Lab.
Her mission is to work in collaboration with filmmakers, producers and organisations making films which discusses pressing issues faced by our society.
